SAVVY FILMS

The independent film company Savvy Films Ltd is dedicated to making films and was founded by Alex Edwards.

With an initial 1987 theatre performance of Scrooge, directed by Andrew Lloyd Webber?s mother, Alex has gone on to perform in over 50 films as well as producing several film projects since 2003. Credentials include work alongside Natalie Press (My Summer of Love, WASP) in “DejaVu” (2003), AttaYaqub (AeFond Kiss) in “Explosions” (2006) , Michelle Duncan (Atonement, Driving Lessons) in “Sucking Is a Fine Quality in Women and Vacuum Cleaners” (2005) and YousafAli Khan (BAFTA nominated director) in “Captive Thoughts” (2000).

Alex’s performance along side Naseeruddin Shah in international hit “In the Name of God” (aka “Khuda Ke Liye”), helped realise the possibilities for independent films with global appeal. This Pakistani film went on to sell internationally (including India) grossing over $10m Worldwide and win several awards including the Italian Rossellini Award.

Combined with previous team management skills acquired from corporate finance employment at Lehman Brothers (1999-2001), Arthur Andersen (2001-2002), Deloitte (2002-2007) and his own consultancy (2007 onwards), Alex is well prepared him for the challenge of driving productions through to delivery. The unique mix of creativity and structured financial knowledge shapes the core of the Savvy Films.

SavvyFilms recently assisted producers with the UK financial and tax structuring of the independent film 100 Streets (2016), written and produced by Leon Butler and starring Edris Elba, Gemma Artherton and Tom Cullen.
